| Over the last few years, the existing technology development and acquisition activities within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have grown relatively rapidly reflecting their importance in overall border and security strategy. Given these developments, Commissioner of CBP, Alan Bersin created the Office of Technology Innovation and Acquisition (OTIA) to establish better governance and integration of applied technology and acquisition efforts to more fully complement the mission and support frontline personnel. |

  | Tactical Infrastructure/Border Fence The Facilities Management and Engineering’s Office of Border Patrol (OBP) Program Management Office provides Border Patrol with long-term planning, construction, and maintenance capabilities – including tactical infrastructure (TI) components such as roads, fencing, lights, electrical components, and drainage structures – to help the Border Patrol achieve its primary homeland security mission. Originally stood up under the Secure Border Initiative (SBI) in 2007, the OBP Program Management Office's most visible construction projects have been, but will not always be, the pedestrian and vehicle fence projects along the Southwest Border. |  |
